Meet the People Behind Lumen

Ruby Au, Co-Founder

Following a love of adventure and travel, Ruby came up with the idea for Lumen after visiting Kenya and learning about the challenges faced by off-grid communities. Previously, Ruby has worked with micro-enterprises and community banks in Honduras and Panama, at a social enterprise precinct in a post-apartheid South Africa, and with the LA Mayor's Office of Economic Development. Her favorite things in life include the outdoors, cats, and street tacos.

Sara Yang, Co-Founder

With a background in human-centered design and management consulting, Sara is a Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab Scholar and founder of a design-thinking studio in Los Angeles. Prior to Lumen, Sara worked as an analyst with Accenture, and also traveled to Honduras to help develop microfinance and community loan projects. In her free time, you can find Sara drinking coffee, exploring dance workshops, or looking for new foods to eat.

Rick Kilu, Community Lead

A local of Mtito Andei in rural Kenya, Rick works with the community in order to bridge the gap between idea and reality. In addition to working on Lumen, Rick is a passionate photographer and musician who aspires to bring light to the untold stories in Kenya's villages, creating transformational change from the inside out.

Wyckliffe Omwamba, Launch Director

A go-getter with big dreams and an equally big heart, Wycliffe (Wiki) Omwamba met Ruby during her first visit to Kenya, and immediately jumped on board to Team Lumen. A local of Nairobi, trained architect, and self-made DJ, Wiki brings to the team the energy, connections, and resources to make things happen.
